10th Annual Killester Jamboree
Saturday May 24th,
IWA, Clontarf

Picture
Tens years on and the madness of Jamboree Day shows no sign of slowing down. This year we were joined by our friends from Mount Argus, Leixlip, Bray Lakers,  Sports Club 15 and Arklow, all kitted out in their club colours to play some ball.

The day started with the parade of athletes, followed by the reading of the Athlete Oath by Killester Athlete Daniel O Brien. A quick dance to warm up all the athletes and it was straight into divisioning.

The spectators in the IWA were treated to some thrilling matches during the lunch break. Each club got the chance to test a selection of their players against some of Killester Basketball Clubs best players. With Killester player John Behan taking to the mic to provide a rousing commentary, the cheers from the crowds nearly lifted the roof. Each club put on the best spread of players, leaving the Killester players going home without a win to their names!!!!!!

With the competition over, it was time for the medal presentation. This year, we were delighted to be joined by members of an Garda Síochána, Killester Super league star Mariano Gomez and Dublin legend Jack McCaffrey, who even brought Sam along to help with proceedings. Tony the Tiger kept them all in check, and was at the end of the medal line to supply much needed hugs and high fives! There was only enough time left for our visiting friends to grab a goody bag before departing for home.

When the last bus departed, the volunteers looked back on the day where 102 athletes from six clubs, joined by their friends and families, enjoyed a spectacular and very successful day. The committee spend months planning this event every year, but it would not be possible without the hard work and dedication of the volunteers who give their time, and all their energy on the day. Special thanks is owed to the Killester Club players, who turned up en masse for the half time extravaganza. Hopefully Guys when you come back next year, we might let ye win!

So another Jamboree over, and we're already looking forward to next year. Roll on #11!!!
