Jamboree 2015
Over 80 athletes come together in the IWA for a truly Special day
Number 11 blows number 10 right out of the water!!
On Saturday, May 9th, the IWA in Clontarf was packed to the rafters with over 80 athletes, their families and friends, National league stars and one cheeky tiger for our Annual Killester Special Olympics Jamboree. This year, we were joined by our friends from Lucan, Leixlip, Sports Club 15, Mount Argus Tigers and Bray. The day began nearly on time with the Parade of Athletes to cheers that just about lifted the roof right off. The all important Athletes Oath, to ensure fair competition, was read by Killester athlete Sadhbh McNeill and then it was down to the business of divisioning. |

Before the competition session, we were joined by a Killester National League Selection of John, Conor, Mariano, Michael and Viv, and our Special Olympics teams certainly put them through their paces in a range of challenging games. Yet again, the visitors were left to go home without a win, but they did manage to draw level on two occasions.
This is truly one of the highlights of the day for the athletes involved. We are indebted to the National League players who give their time so graciously for the event. |
After lunch, it was on to the competition phase of the event and the countdown was on to the Medal Ceremony. This year we were joined by Garda Sharon and Garda John from Clontarf Station, along with our 4v4 Commissioner Peter Ward to present the silverware. The day would not have been complete without our own superstar, Tony the Tiger, who handed out high 5's and hugs to athletes and spectators alike.
There was just time left for one last dance and some Goodie bags before the athletes departed for home after another wonderful day in Clontarf. |
